How Does rfolder Work?

rfolder installs a small software application on the local computer to manage all of the data protection and restoration. After the data you want to protect is identified, rfolder encrypts and compresses this data and then transfers a master copy to an rfolder data center.

During the 5-minute setup the user is asked to choose a password and a passphrase. The unique passphrase becomes part of the rfolder encryption algorithm. Each time a file is changed, rfolder detects the change, encrypts and compresses the revision and sends it to an rfolder data center to be stored with the master copy of the file. Unlike our competition, the user determines what files and folders to backup and different backup procedures can be defined on a file-by-file basis. rfolder does not care if the file is located on the computer or somewhere else on the network. Just point and shoot – rfolder does the rest.

Our easy-to-use system lets you determine backup frequency and how many previous versions of the data are kept. Very small amounts of storage are used to maintain many versions, because only the data changes are stored. rfolder can even help when data is destroyed by mistake because rfolder maintains copies of deleted files for a period of time – preventing accidental deletions.  This data recovery functionality is guaranteed to come in handy one day.
